Fresh Oyster Mushroom
Oyster mushroom is an easily approachable gourmet mushroom
Its taste has been described as a combination of chanterelle and button mushroom – mild, aromatic, and umami, with a hint of the nuttiness found in porcini mushrooms. The texture is firm and "meaty", holding its structure when cooked without becoming mushy. Oyster mushrooms contain less water on average than other mushrooms, so they don't shrink as much in the pan. Oyster mushrooms also have lower levels of trehalose (mushroom sugar) compared to many other mushrooms, making them suitable for those prone to digestive issues with mushrooms. The flavor, texture, and ease of use make oyster mushrooms an excellent choice for those new to incorporating mushrooms into their meals!
How to use it?
Satohuone's oyster mushroom is perhaps the easiest mushroom to prepare. It requires no special treatments, blanching, or liquid evaporation. Just open the package and chop it onto a hot, oiled pan. Fry until golden brown and crispy. Season with salt and pepper, and for garlic lovers - you know what to do.
Oyster mushrooms are delicious on their own but also pair well with pasta, omelets, risotto, on bread, in stews, Asian dishes, stir-fries, and pho or ramen soups. Essentially, when fried, they complement any warm dish.
Wow! The nutritional content of oyster mushrooms
is quite impressive, and calling them a superfood is not an exaggeration at all. They have a good nutritional composition: up to 40% fiber, moderately high-quality protein, and practically no fat or calories. Oyster mushrooms contain various B-vitamins, C, D, and K vitamins, bioflavonoids, minerals (iron, zinc, selenium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, and iodine), as well as numerous bioactive polysaccharides and phytochemicals.
Special honors go to lovastatin and beta-glucan, with oyster mushrooms containing around 13% beta-glucan (compared to around 4% in oats). Oyster mushrooms also boast a significant amount of beneficial ergothioneine, which is not present in plant-based products. Satohuone recommends searching for more information online!
