How to order and pick up

You can pick up spent lion's mane substrate bags for free from the Satohuone for the time being. See directions below. The same address also hosts a house and several warehouse spaces.

1. Order the desired amount (minimum 5pcs) of spent substrate bags from the online store and write the pickup day in the text field on the product page. The bags will be prepared outside for you, and you can pick them up independently starting from 09:00 on that day. If no pickup day is specified, the bags will return to the store for ordering. New stock will be added every week.

2. Pick up the bags from the Satohuone yard on the day you specified. If you do not pick them up on the specified day, the bags will be released back into the online store for others to order. If, for any reason, the pickup day is not possible on Satohuone's side, we will contact you. Otherwise, the bags will be waiting for you on the specified day without any separate notice. The pickup location is at the corner of the warehouse end, next to the door of Satohuone. There might be a lot bags at the pickup point, please only take the amount you ordered so that the next person can get theirs too.

3. At the pickup point, there is a black box where you can, if you wish, leave a small useful or fun gift as a thank you. It could be something like a few fresh fruits, xylitol chewing gum, a new dish brush, toilet paper or a pack of cookies. The thought counts, and surprises are welcome. :) This is totally voluntary!

4. Please note that the bags are outside and exposed to the weather, so they may be damp and have holes from which the substrate can fall out a little. Bring garbage bags or protect your car with a tarp if needed. In winter, the bags may be frozen (unless they come directly from production on the pickup day). The mycelium will withstand freezing, and you can use the substrates normally after thawing.

Each bag is about 40 cm long, 10 cm in diameter, and weighs around 1.8 kg.

Driving instructions:

Drive into the inner yard of Kässälänkatu 4 (not the house on the street!) and follow the signs for Satohuone towards the right side of the hall building in front, around the corner.

How to use?

You can grow more mushrooms from the spent lion's mane substrate. The easiest way is to make a mushroom bed outside. You can make it with the same instructions used for oyster mushroom (https://www.satohuone.fi/en/product/spent-mushroom-substrate). Lion's mane might need extra nutrients to produce decent mushrooms though. Hardwood is the best material for lion's mane, for example pellets or chips. Softwoods or straw pellets are not recommended. The material is moistened and mixed with the crumbled lion's mane substrate, after which it's compacted tightly and watered. In a few weeks the mycelium will colonize the new material and after that it is ready to produce mushrooms.

You can also try and grow straight from the subsrate log, indoors or outdoors. Just keep the log moist until the mushrooms have grown. No extra holes should be made, just let the mushrooms grow from the existing holes.

The substrate includes finnish birch and wheat, and it can be composted, used as mulch or disposed as biowaste.

Happy growing!
